something I have been thinking about
The most absurd thing about my illness is how fatigued I get, especially when it comes to cognition. Over the weekend I had four different social events – mostly just one on one conversations. Last Friday I dropped off and picked up Dodi (my dog) from the groomers, which is about 30 minutes away. I could feel it happening by Sunday afternoon- my brain felt like it was about to start leaking out of my ears. My brain just hit a wall and I am just now, on Tuesday night semi recovered and able to kind of string written sentences together. Every action feels like a great feat – both physically and mentally. I have been working on this edition of the newsletter over a few weeks – so it is ready to send out. Enjoy this issue.
Reading updated- I am still reading The Fraud, which is genius. I am also reading Deirdre Madden’s Molly Fox’s Birthday.
something short to read/listen to
I really enjoyed “How Romance made me a better Literary Fiction Reader,” a guest post in Fiction Matters.
For those of you who are equally as obsessed with Robert Caro as I am, 99% Invisible is doing a 2024 read-a-long of The Powerbroker. If you are unfamiliar with Robert Caro, you should read this 2016 interview with the Paris Review. I have to admin that I find him challenging to read because every time I start reading I get so gleefully excited I have to put the book down and share it with someone. Since we are on the subject of Caro - I highly recommend the documentary, “Turn Every Page,” about him and his editor, Robert Gottlieb (another rock star) directed by Gottlieb’s daughter. I might write a newsletter about Caro - I think about it a lot - I already have a title in mind.
My brilliant friend Hope just published a new piece that is both extremely vulnerable and gorgeously written - it is called Jealousies .

I dove into the online collection from Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and found some delightful objects.
